MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 12, 2019) – The Milligan Arts Council will present Ensemble Chaconne on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the McGlothlin-Street Theatre located in Milligan’s Gregory Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Ensemble Chaconne presents historically informed concert performances. At Milligan, the ensemble will transport listeners to Shakespeare’s time with “Measure for Measure: The Music of Shakespeare’s Plays.” The concert will feature songs from “As You Like It,” “Twelfth Night,” “The Tempest,” “Hamlet” and “Othello.”
“It is such a rare pleasure to have a professional ensemble visit our region that specializes in the authentic performance of Renaissance music on period instruments,” said Dr. Kellie Brown, professor of music. “The music will not only be delightful to the ear, but seeing these important instruments from by-gone centuries is a wonderful educational experience for our students and the community.”
Ensemble Chaconne includes Peter H. Bloom, Renaissance flute; Carol Lewis, viola da gamba; Olav Chris Henriksen, Renaissance lute; and Burcu Gulec, mezzo-soprano. They are based in Boston, Massachusetts, and have toured extensively in the United States, Ontario and England.
