MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Sept. 20, 2019) — This fall, Milligan College’s musical theatre program will perform “Songs for a New World.” Prior to the campus premiere, Milligan welcomes a member of the original cast, Jessica Molaskey, for a masterclass on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 7-9 p.m. in the McGlothlin-Street Theatre. The masterclass is free and open to the public.
Molaskey will observe and coach Milligan students as they perform select Broadway hits. Molaskey also will assist Milligan’s cast during a private rehearsal of “Songs for a New World,” providing valuable insights from her experiences performing this show Off-Broadway.
“It is a pleasure to have Jessica visit Milligan to share her extensive knowledge of musical theatre that ranges from performing on Broadway to working with talented directors, music directors and composers,” said Dr. Carrie Klofach, assistant professor of musical theatre at Milligan. “Her visit will be an invaluable experience for our students and community. Singing for Broadway performers and composers as a student helped me along my own path, and these connections help performers build bridges into professional work.”
Molaskey is a veteran of a dozen Broadway shows, including the revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s “Sunday in the Park with George,” which was nominated for nine Tony Awards. She appeared in “A Man of No Importance” at Lincoln Center, “Parade” directed by Hal Prince, “Dream,” “Tommy,” “Crazy for You,” “Les Misérables,” “City of Angels,” “Chess,” “Cats” and “Oklahoma!“
Molaskey’s experience and feedback will help Milligan’s musical theatre program continue the successes of its inaugural musical theatre production of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” last spring.
“Songs for a New World” will be performed at Milligan Oct. 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 27 at 2:30 p.m. in Milligan’s McGlothlin-Street Theatre in the Gregory Center. Tickets go on sale Sept. 23 and can be purchased in advance at milligan.tix.com.
