Milligan presents annual Juried Art Exhibition, April 28

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 24, 2019)—Milligan College will present the 24th annual Juried Art Exhibition on Sunday, April 28, with an opening reception from 2-4 p.m. in the Milligan Art Gallery located inside Derthick Hall. The exhibit will remain open until Friday, May 3. The event is free and open to the public.

The Juried Art Exhibition showcases the talents and skills of Milligan fine art, photography, graphic design and digital media students. Each year, the college selects a juror to hand pick the pieces to be displayed in the exhibit.

This year’s juror is Catherine Murray, professor emerita at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). Murray received her MFA in sculpture from the University of Montana. She has taught at ETSU for 22 years, and her courses have included sculpture, 3D Design and a variety of studio art classes, including public art, encaustic painting and study abroad in Italy. She continues to teach at ETSU during the fall semesters. Her new outdoor sculpture will be installed at the Johnson City Public Library in May 2019.

“It’s exciting for students and faculty to see which works the juror selects and how that chosen collection comes together as an exhibit in the gallery,” said Art Brown, professor of graphic design at Milligan. “We invite everyone to the opening reception to see the excellent work from this academic year and to support their classmates and students.”

Awards of excellence and merit will be given to standout pieces.
