MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 21, 2019) — The Milligan College Concert Choir and Heritage, Milligan’s select a cappella ensemble, will cap its biennial choir tour with a home concert, “I Will Lift My Eyes,” on Sunday, March 17, at 3:30 p.m. in Milligan’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium located in Seeger Chapel. This concert will present songs of trust and assurance in an uplifting program inspired by Psalm 121. Concert selections include “Hear My Prayer, O Lord” by Henry Purcell, “Cornerstone” by Shawn Kirchner, “I Will Lift My Eyes” by Daniel E. Gawthrop, and many more. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Concert Choir will be touring through several states over spring break, and their concluding concert at Milligan will give local audiences an opportunity to hear the tour program. The choir will be accompanied by Milligan alumna and current seminary student Erin Raines (’13).
“The singers have worked diligently to prepare this tour program,” said Dr. Noah DeLong, associate professor of music and conductor of the choir. “We are excited to share it with audiences around the country and here at home. We hope our music reflects the peace and refuge we receive when we fix our thoughts on God’s continued presence in our lives.”

- March 7, 7 p.m., First Church of God, Alliance, Ohio
- March 8, 7 p.m., First Christian Church at Brock Hall, Upper Marlboro, Maryland
- March 9, 7 p.m., Fairmont Christian Church, Mechanicsville, Virginia
- March 10, 8:15 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., Fairmont Christian Church, Mechanicsville, Virginia
- March 10, 7 p.m., Radford Baptist Church, Moneta, Virginia
In recent years, the choir has maintained an active performance schedule on campus and throughout Northeast Tennessee. Frequently touring throughout the United States, the choir has performed recently in Washington, D.C., the mid-Atlantic, Chicago and the Midwest. In addition, the choir regularly collaborates with the Milligan Orchestra, the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony of the Mountains. The choir will perform in Milligan’s upcoming spring theatrical production, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” on March 27-31.
DeLong joined Milligan’s faculty in 2011 and teaches a wide range of courses including applied voice, aural skills, conducting and secondary music methods. In addition, DeLong is the faculty sponsor for Milligan’s collegiate National Association for Music Education (NAfME) chapter. Outside of his work at the college, DeLong serves as artistic director of the Appalachian Men’s Ensemble (AMEn) and the Grandview Christian Church Choir, both in Johnson City, Tennessee. He earned the D.M.A. in choral conducting and pedagogy from The University of Iowa, where he studied with Dr. Timothy Stalter, in addition to degrees from Taylor University and Ball State University.
