MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (February 16, 2018)—Milligan College presents a senior art show titled “Art of My Heart,” by Michala Morris, from Piney Flats, Tennessee, with an opening reception on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. in the Milligan Art Gallery located in Derthick Hall. The event

is free and open to the public. The show will run from February 25 to March 2.

Her show will feature a series of portraits and nature works in different artistic styles including primarily oil paint, along with watercolors, inks and drawings.

According to Morris, her artwork featured in this show is all deeply inspired by personal connections to friends, family and the beauty of nature.

“All artwork has meaning,” said Morris, a fine arts major. “Every artist puts something of them into their creation. It is a representation of the heart, the soul and the mind of the artist.”

Her work also is deeply connected to her faith.

“Creativity is a powerful gift,” said Morris. “I believe that when we are being creative, it is a moment of spirituality when we can feel closer and more deeply connected to our Lord God. To create something expresses a quality given to us by God that enables us to reflect Him, as He created all.”

After graduating from Milligan this upcoming May, Morris plans to open her own fine art and ballroom dance studio. She will continue her foreign language studies and hopes to one day teach Mandarin Chinese, or travel abroad and teach English in China.

More senior art shows are scheduled throughout the semester.
