MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 30, 2016) — Blending pop, folk and soul, singer-songwriter Serena Dalton will perform songs at Milligan College from her new album, “Rip Tide,” as part of a U.S. tour she is doing on behalf of Remember The Children, a mission to help Romanian orphans started by Milligan alum Andy Baker (B.A. ’88, M.Div. ’98).
The concert will be on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. in Milligan’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium located in Seeger Chapel. This event is free and open to the public.
One hundred percent of the sales of Dalton’s album will go towards the development of orphan homes in Romania, according to Baker.
“We are using concerts as a way to build awareness of the orphan problem in Romania,” said Baker, who discovered Dalton, an unknown musician at the time, playing piano in the lobby of a Romanian hotel. “I think people will love her music. Her heart is for ministry and helping these kids.”
Baker’s desire to help the orphans of Romania started in the early 1990s when he and his wife went on a mission trip to Romania, more out of curiosity to see behind the Iron Curtain; however, the orphan problem there “devastated” him.
Baker and his wife soon became advocates and started the organization Remember the Children 20 years ago, providing orphan care, planting churches and inviting college students over the summer.
