MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 6, 2016) – Milligan College will host Dr. Charlie Starr, a noted C.S. Lewis scholar, who will shed new light on the beloved Christian writer and author of “The Chronicles of Narnia” during two lectures on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. in Milligan’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium located in Seeger Chapel and 7 p.m. in Hyder Auditorium. These events are free and open to the public.
Starr has meticulously mapped out changes in the famous author’s handwriting, allowing him to precisely date Lewis’s manuscripts, including a later version of the published short story “Light.” At the lectures, Starr will share his findings and research methodology that aided his quest to unravel a mystery surrounding the short story.
“Dr. Starr has focused on projects involving original C. S. Lewis manuscripts for the last six years and is considered by many to be one of the world’s leading experts on Lewis’s handwriting,” said Brad Wallace, Milligan’s campus minister, who previously worked with Starr at Kentucky Christian University. “For Starr, this seemingly meticulous research is really about the stories–mining for the details that give a more complete picture of this man whose words have nurtured the faith of millions.”
Starr is a columnist for Lookout Magazine and author of a running total of five books: two biblical studies, a science fiction novel, a children’s book and most recently, “Light: C.S. Lewis’s First and Final Short Story.” Starr also has acted as a consultant, writer, actor and/or producer on many short film projects which have been nationally recognized.
Milligan’s Office of Undergraduate Research is sponsoring this event.
