MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2016) — Milligan College welcomes back Jennifer Pharr Davis, owner and founder of Blue Ridge Hiking Company in Asheville, North Carolina, to speak in chapel Thursday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. in the college’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium located in Seeger Chapel.
Davis, a three-time Appalachian Trail thru-hiker, will speak on “A Christian Environment,” sharing how she grew closer to Christ through spending time in God’s creation and among the diverse long-distance hiking community.
In 2011, Davis became the first woman to set the Overall Appalachian Trail Record, completing the 2181-mile trek in just 46 days and averaging nearly 47 miles per day. This accomplishment was voted Ultrarunning Magazine’s Female Performance of 2011 and earned Davis recognition as a 2012 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year. Her latest book, “Called Again,” chronicles this remarkable journey, and her adventures have been featured in The New York Times and The Washington Post and on NPR’s Talk of the Nation, CNN and the CBS Early Show.
“Jennifer’s remarkable accomplishments as a renowned trail athlete are testament to the power of persistence, faith and an adventurous spirit,” said Brad Wallace, Milligan’s campus minister. “That same passion drives her mission to get people outdoors and connecting with God’s good creation. We are thrilled to have her back on Milligan’s campus.”
