MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 28, 2015) — The Milligan College Women’s Chorale will participate in the morning worship services at Liberty Hill United Methodist Church in Morristown, Tennessee, on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 9:30 a.m. The ensemble performs again at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Appalachian Christian Village in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Representing a wide range of academic majors and minors, the Milligan Women’s Chorale is an auditioned choir of female students performing a varied repertoire of sacred music, classics, spirituals, hymn arrangements, world music, musical theatre and standard tunes.
The Milligan Women’s Chorale continues the college’s long tradition of female choirs. Over the years, the group has sung in numerous churches for worship and fellowship events, both locally and out of state. The chorale also has performed in concerts, chapel services and special events at Milligan, as well as various other organizations and institutions. In 2014, the ensemble was selected to perform annually at the 2015 Biltmore Estate Candlelight Christmas Evenings event.
In October, the chorale will join Milligan’s Concert Choir, Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble for the annual Homecoming Concert on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 3:30 p.m. The concert will be held in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium located in the college’s Seeger Chapel. Commemorating Milligan’s sesquicentennial, this short, family-friendly concert will feature traditional folk songs and music of Appalachia. The event is free and open to the public.
The Milligan Women’s Chorale is under the direction of Anne Elliott, assistant professor of music. She is a graduate of Coastal Carolina University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Elliott joined Milligan’s faculty in fall 1999 and founded the college’s Women’s Chorale in 2007. In addition to directing the chorale, she teaches piano and advanced theory at Milligan. Elliott also performs regularly as collaborative pianist for soloists and ensembles, and she currently serves as Chancel Choir accompanist, church pianist and director of the Highest Praise vocal ensemble at Central Baptist Church in Johnson City.
