MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 1, 2015) — The Milligan College Women’s Chorale will perform their spring concert in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Chapel on Sunday, April 12, at 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Directed by Anne Elliott, assistant professor of the practice of music, the 24-member vocal ensemble will perform various musical styles including folk music, art songs, sacred music and gospel. The Woman’s Chorale will be accompanied by senior music major Amanda Eversole.
“The ladies are excited to present such a varied program that includes familiar sacred standards as well as music from the British Isles and Native America,” said Elliott. “Several selections in the program were arranged or written by female composers, and one of them will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.”
Other highlights of the concert include “Morning Song” (Cherokee translation of “Amazing Grace”) arranged by James Green, “Make a Joyful Noise” by popular gospel composer Rollo Dilworth, “This Indeed is Music” by Andrea Ramsey, “Celtic Gloria” arranged by Daniel Rash and “E’en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come” by Paul Manz.
Folk and traditional pieces in the Celtic style include “Loch Lomond” arranged by Annemarie Hildebrandt, “Be Thou My Vision” arranged by Debra Morton and “Travelin’ Home” arranged by Andrea Ramsey. “Benediction,” Carl J. Nygard, Jr.’s setting of the traditional Irish Blessing, will conclude the program.
Founded in fall 2007, the Women’s Chorale performs literature of different styles, ranging from sacred to popular, and follows in the long-standing tradition of women’s ensembles at Milligan. The Women’s Chorale performs on and off campus for churches and various organizations in the Tri-Cities area.
