MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept 10, 2014) — Milligan College announced a strong fall enrollment of 1,177 today, its third-largest enrollment in recent history and one of its strongest new student classes.
The new student class academic profile includes an average ACT of 24 and high school GPA of 3.7, well above state and national averages.
Retention also continues to be strong, at 90 percent overall and 78 percent for freshman-to-sophomores, which continues to be 20 to 30 percent higher than regional and national averages at both public and private colleges.
“Quality is critical to what we do at Milligan and something we’re proud to maintain,” said Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer. “Our success comes from an unwavering commitment to our mission and service to our students with the best educational experience possible. It’s all about them.”
Milligan has several programs to ensure students have the opportunity to succeed, including faculty and peer mentoring programs, free tutoring and the Office of Student Success, whose mission is to help students navigate the college experience. These programs, coupled with a low student-to-faculty ratio, emphasize the individual needs of students in the context of community.
The college also continues to add facilities, activities, programs and services that have enhanced growth and enrollment. A few of these include the new Milligan Housing Village that opened last fall; the men’s volleyball team, recently added to Milligan’s strong athletics program; and student development programs, which are intended to create a tight-knit campus community.
Milligan is pursuing a number of important initiatives that will ensure its continued growth well into the future, including the upcoming integration of Emmanuel Christian Seminary into Milligan and the addition of new programs in fields such as engineering and physician assistant.
This fall, the Milligan community has 894 traditional undergraduate students and 283 enrolled in its graduate and adult degree-completion programs.
In addition to its enrollment numbers, the college also has climbed in several national rankings. Most recently, it was ranked among the top 10 regional colleges in the South by U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 “Best Colleges” report released Sept. 9. The college was also ranked No. 4 best value among regional colleges in the South in the report’s “Great Schools at Great Places” category and No. 2 on the “Best College for Veterans” list. Milligan also continues to be among the top 20 baccalaureate colleges in the nation, according to Washington Monthly’s 2014 College Guide Rankings.
“Milligan has many numbers to celebrate this fall, from our rankings to our retention,” Greer said. “But more than that, we celebrate our commitment to excellence in scholarship, we celebrate our cherished sense of community, and we celebrate, most of all, our faith-driven mission that helps our students prepare for lives of service.”
Final enrollment statistics will be released from the Registrar’s Office later this month. For more information about Milligan College, visit www.milligan.edu.
