Milligan to host April 28 information session in Kingsport

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 17, 2013) — The Milligan College Admissions Office will host a drop-in information open house at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education (KCHE) in Kingsport, Tenn., on Monday, April 28, from 5-7 p.m.

This session will spotlight Milligan’s graduate and professional studies (GPS) programs offered at KCHE, located at 300 West Market Street in Kingsport. Visitors also will learn about the GPS programs offered on Milligan’s campus. The session will be held in room 209 at KCHE.

Faculty and staff will be present to discuss degree completion programs for adults in business administration, early childhood education and nursing (RN to BSN), as well as graduate degree programs in business administration (MBA), education (M.Ed.), occupational therapy (MSOT) and counseling (MSC). The open house also will include information about Milligan’s online major in computer information systems (CIS).

The following programs are highlighted during the session:

The BS in business administration is a degree completion program that enables working adults to complete a business administration major in 16 months by attending class one night a week. In addition to the Milligan location, the BS in business administration with an emphasis on operations management is offered in the spring at KCHE.

The BS in early childhood education allows adults who have completed about two years of college to complete the child and youth development major in about 18 months. Teaching licensure in early childhood education (PreK-3) may be obtained by completing additional coursework and a 15-week supervised teaching experience in a public school setting. This program also will be offered at KCHE.

ADCP in RN to BSN (nursing)—This adult degree completion program will begin in January 2015 on Milligan’s campus, and is designed for the practicing RN who desires to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The program requires students to be in class only one day per week and will provide students with individual advising sessions to guide them through the curriculum. Classes will be a combination of online, face to face and hybrid (a mix of online and face to face). Completing the major takes approximately 19 months.

The computer information systems-mobile (CIS) major is designed for students who are unable to complete their degree or add a second major in a traditional college setting. Courses in this major are delivered to the student via Milligan’s Internet course management system and can be easily accessed from anywhere. Students can take just one course at a time or complete the major in as few as four semesters.

The MSC program offers concentrations in school counseling and clinical mental health counseling. In addition, Milligan recently signed a cooperative agreement with Emmanuel Christian Seminary to offer a certificate of graduate study in counseling ministry. This program introduces students to basic knowledge about both secular and Christian perspectives on counseling and how these may be applied in a church-based setting.

The MBA is a 14-month program that meets one Saturday per month, complemented by ongoing Internet-based instruction. The program is designed to accommodate professionals working at every level of management and focuses on business leadership from a Christian perspective. Milligan’s MBA offers three specialized tracks in leadership, healthcare management and operations management. In addition, Milligan now offers an opportunity for individuals who already possess an MBA or equivalent degree to earn an executive certificate in one of the three specialized tracks. The MBA is offered at KCHE in the spring.

The M.Ed. program includes both initial licensure and advanced degree options. The initial licensure degree is typically a 15-month professional educational program that allows students to earn their teaching certificate or license and their degree. The advanced program is for current teachers seeking professional development and their master’s degree. The advanced M.Ed. program is a hybrid of online and on-campus options, allowing students the convenience of online courses and the opportunity to interact face to face with the knowledgeable, caring education faculty.

The MSOT program is the only master’s level occupational therapy program in northeast Tennessee. It prepares therapists to help people with injuries or illnesses to relearn basic living skills. The program is designed for people with undergraduate degrees in a variety of academic fields.

Prospective students are invited to register for the April 28 information session at www.milligan.edu/GPS. Registration is not required; however, all registrants will be entered into a drawing the night of the information session.
