MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Jan. 24, 2014) — Milligan College will present an evening of “sweet sounds,” featuring entertainment and desserts, on Friday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. in Milligan’s McCormick Dining Center, located in Sutton Hall.
Three Milligan music ensembles ― Heard Mentality, Heritage and the Women’s Chorale ― will headline the “Sweet Sounds” dessert cabaret, which also includes a variety of other performers from the college and community.
Tickets are $15 for general admission or $10 for students, and may be reserved by calling the Milligan music office at 423.461.8723. Limited seating is available, and remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
“This cabaret, held in Milligan’s festively decorated McCormick Dining Center, will feature many of our talented students performing jazz, pop and musical theater standards in a relaxed atmosphere,” said Noah DeLong, assistant professor of music at Milligan. “Also, those attending will be treated to a delicious dessert buffet as well as punch, coffee and hot chocolate.”
Highlights of the evening will include performances by several of Milligan’s senior music majors including Emily May, Amber Vaughn, Ben Davenport and Nancy Schranz.
In addition, the TBA Girls, a set of singing triplets who performed last summer on NBC’s singing competition “The Winner Is,” will perform. The members of TBA Girls include Tiffany, Brianna and Amanda Florian, all current Milligan freshmen.
Adding to the excitement of live entertainment, Milligan junior Tim Wood will coordinate a live painting during one of the acts. The artwork will be auctioned at the end of the program to raise funds for the Milligan music area.
The evening’s musical selections range from George and Ira Gershwin classics to favorites by Benny King and Cole Porter.
Ensemble selections will include “Moon River” and “Someone to Watch Over Me,” sung by the Women’s Chorale, and “I Get Around” and “Happy Together,” performed by Heard Mentality. Also, in a nod to the long history of madrigal dinners at Milligan, the performance by Heritage will include a lively madrigal by John Farmer.
“Last year, we held a similar event in the student center, and it was very successful,” DeLong said. “The student performers were outstanding, and the audience was standing room only. So this year, we decided to change venues to accommodate more seating and to be able to offer refreshments, as well.
“With entertaining music and tempting desserts, we think this will be a fantastic event for people to include in their Valentine’s Day plans.”
