MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Jan. 10, 2014) — Whether you’re a “history buff,” a “sports buff,” a “science buff,” or an “arts buff,” high school seniors and college transfers will learn what it’s like to be a Milligan College Buff at a visit day event on Saturday, Feb. 1.
Named “Be a Buff Day” in honor of Milligan’s mascot, the Buffaloes, this visit day will provide prospective students and their parents with a snapshot of campus life packed into one day. It includes opportunities to meet one-on-one with students and faculty, campus tours, information sessions, and break-out sessions highlighting Milligan’s 100 majors, pre-professional degrees and concentrations in a variety of fields.
“We are excited to showcase Milligan’s distinctive community feel and academic excellence through this day-long event,” said Jason Makowsky, director of admissions. “At Milligan, students can expect to be known by name as they journey through their college experience. Our staff is highly committed to creating a welcoming environment, and this day is a chance to see all we have to offer those interested in ‘being a buff.’
“Unique to this day as well is the opportunity for all ‘art buffs’ to sit one-on-one with faculty and students to have their portfolio reviewed for both feedback and/or scholarship opportunity,” he added.
Buff Day begins with check-in and a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. After a welcome session, students may choose two sessions that meet their needs. Options include sessions on financial aid and scholarships, student life, servant leadership and internships, and a campus tour. There also are sessions for transfer students and parents.
After a brunch, the “Academic Buff” sessions begin. Students and their parents will break out into their areas of interest and speak with professors and students about specific programs. Then, they will have time to meet with their admission counselor and take a campus tour.
In addition, “music buffs” may arrive a day early for Milligan’s music scholarship auditions on Friday, Jan. 31. Music auditions are scheduled separately by calling the Milligan music office at 423.461.8723.
Students who are not able to attend the Feb. 1 Be a Buff Day event have another opportunity this spring. The next visit day event, which will be similar in format and content, is set for Friday, March 21.
