MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 24, 2013) — The annual Milligan College Juried Art Exhibition will be on display April 28 to May 3, in the Milligan Art Gallery, located in the lower level of Derthick Hall. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, April 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
This exhibit showcases the top Milligan student art projects from the year. Only the best art, photography, sculpture and digital media projects will be selected for display. Awards of excellence and merit will be given to standout pieces.
“This is an excellent opportunity for the Milligan students to have their work critiqued by someone in the Johnson City art community,” said Alice Anthony, associate professor of art at Milligan.
The juror is Sarah K. Davis, the recently retired executive director of the Johnson City Area Arts Council. During her 18-year career, she initiated many projects and programs for the Johnson City area. She has juried numerous art shows and competitions in the region, and she continues to work with artists to improve their platforms for recognition and sales of art.
Davis also established a public art program within the Arts Council where permanent and temporary sculpture and art work are displayed around Johnson City, including places such as the Millennium Park Conference Center and Franklin Woods Community Hospital. Today, she serves as chairperson on the City of Johnson City Public Art Committee to create an exciting public art program throughout the city.
