MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 22, 2013) — Milligan College senior Jordan Kinser, of Butler, Tenn., is one of two students nationwide selected for the Jessie Ball duPont Fund Fellows Program.
This program is a two-year period of work and study at the Jessie Ball duPont Fund offices in Jacksonville, Fla. The Fund works to expand access and create opportunity through grants to more than 330 eligible organizations identified by duPont in her will. Fellows work alongside senior staff, collaborate on projects, and independently manage projects and programs.
The fellows also have the opportunity to attend the Georgetown University Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate program and participate in professional gatherings of the field.
“We are thrilled that Jordan Kinser will be joining the Jessie Ball duPont Fund as one of their fellows,” said Milligan President Bill Greer. “Jordan is one of our best and brightest. He will represent Milligan well and, I’m sure, will prove to be a welcome and valued member of the Fund’s staff.
“We are grateful for the generous support we have received from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund over the years and are happy that one of our graduates will be working for such a worthwhile organization.”
Kinser, a history and sociology major, was selected from a pool of applicants from the 37 liberal arts colleges eligible for support from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund. Kinser is the first Milligan student chosen for this fellowship.
While at Milligan, Kinser served as president of the Phi Alpha National Historical Honors Society and as a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. He volunteered with several organizations including Mountain Home Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Coalition for Kids, a Johnson City, Tenn., non-profit organization with a mission to help kids in need.
Kinser will begin his fellowship after he graduates with honors in May. He credits his time at Milligan with laying the groundwork for the fellowship, which he says is an opportunity to follow his passion and work in the non-profit sector to make a difference in the lives of the marginalized or vulnerable members of society.
“Professors at Milligan and the entire community encouraged me to think about important matters, critically evaluate the world and bring my faith into every aspect of my life,” Kinser said. “Without this desire to genuinely follow Christ and this ability to think critically and articulate what needs to be changed in the world, I would not be prepared to accept this fellowship.
“I believe that God did not simply instill within me an academic interest in changing society for the better through Milligan. He also used this college and community to impart upon me the desire to passionately seek the Kingdom of God and an overwhelming sense of responsibility as a Christian to do so.”
