MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 16, 2013) — The Milligan College Women’s Chorale, under the direction of Anne Elliott, will present its 2013 spring concert, “Sing into Spring,” on Friday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Milligan’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.
In a wide range of styles highlighting the unique sound of treble voices, the ladies’ ensemble will perform a musical bouquet of works including selections from sacred, gospel, art song, ethnic and jazz music.
Selections will include “Psalm 100” by Rene Clausen; “Abenlied” by Felix Mendelssohn; “Followers of the Lamb,” arranged by Nancy Grundhahl; and “Embraceable You,” arranged by Jay Althouse. The program also will feature a medley from George Gershwin’s opera “Porgy and Bess,” arranged for female voices by Clay Warnick.
Sophomore Amanda Eversole and Dr. David Runner, professor of music at Milligan, will accompany the chorale.
“The Women’s Chorale has always enjoyed performing an array of musical styles,” said Elliott, assistant professor of the practice of music. “This year the spectrum of themes and musical elements featured in the program’s varied repertoire will hopefully offer enjoyment for every musical taste.”
Continuing in Milligan’s strong tradition of women’s vocal ensembles, the chorale was founded in the fall of 2007. The chorale performs on and off campus in East Tennessee area churches and organizations, as well as out of state.
Elliott is from Myrtle Beach, S.C., and joined the Milligan music faculty in 1999. In addition to directing the Women’s Chorale, she currently teaches piano and accompanying. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in piano performance from the University of South Carolina Coastal Carolina and a master in church music in piano/accompanying from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. She also earned a certificate in piano pedagogy at East Tennessee State University and has studied piano pedagogy with Dr. Maurice Hinson of Louisville, Ky.
Elliott’s choral directing also includes the Highest Praise vocal ensemble of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tenn., where she is Chancel Choir accompanist and church pianist. Elliott performs recitals and programs in collaboration with other musicians in the area and at Milligan. She serves as adjudicator in local piano festivals and competitions and is a frequent guest lecturer and presenter on the subject of “Human Temperament and Practice.”
