MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 3, 2013) — The Milligan College Orchestra will conclude its season with a spring concert on Friday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert, directed by Dr. Kellie Brown, will feature a variety of works by American composers including “Of Glorious Plumage” by Richard Meyer, “American Folk Suite” by Jack Jarrett and Martin O’Donnell’s music from the video game “Halo.”
The highlight of the evening will be a collaboration with the Milligan College Concert Choir and the David Crockett Madrigal Singers in “O Sing Unto the Lord,” Chandos Anthem No. 4 by G. F. Handel.
Milligan alumna Kelly Sams is the choral director at David Crockett High School in Jonesborough, Tenn. She directs the David Crockett Madrigal Singers. Sams earned a bachelor of arts degree (2009) and a master of education (2010) degree from Milligan.
Featured soloists will include Noah DeLong, assistant professor of music and director of the Concert Choir at Milligan.
“We are excited to have both of these choirs join the Orchestra to give voice to Handel’s uplifting music,” said Brown, chair of Milligan’s music area. “This concert is a wonderful opportunity for the parents of the Madrigal Singers to hear their students accompanied by an orchestra, and it’s also an occasion to experience the depth of musical talent at Milligan.”
