MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 8, 2013) — The Milligan College Concert Choir and the Taylor University Chorale (Upland, Ind.) will perform a joint concert at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City, Tenn., on Sunday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

This performance will be particularly special to Noah DeLong, the conductor of Milligan’s Concert Choir, because he will have the opportunity to conduct alongside his former college professor and conductor of the Taylor University Chorale, Dr. JoAnn Rediger.

“Dr. Rediger certainly inspired me with a love of choral singing and a desire to pursue my own conducting career,” said DeLong, who completed his bachelor of arts degree in music and mathematics at Taylor.

DeLong also earned a master of music degree in choral conducting and vocal performance from Ball State University (Indiana). He plans to complete his doctoral degree in choral conducting in December 2013 from The University of Iowa. He joined Milligan’s music faculty in 2011.

One of DeLong’s first conducting opportunities was a position as the assistant director of Rediger’s choir when he was a senior in college.

“I have many fond memories of choir tours when I sang for her as a student, and I look forward to the opportunity for our two groups to fellowship and sing with each other,” DeLong said.

The choirs will perform several pieces individually. Then, Milligan’s choir will join the Taylor Chorale in a piece called “Without Love,” a paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 13, conducted by Rediger. Finally, Taylor will join Milligan in singing “Saints Bound for Heaven,” conducted by DeLong.

“It will be a wonderful experience to hear nearly 90 college students singing together at the conclusion of the concert,” DeLong said.

Taylor’s Chorale performs on campus, tours regularly throughout the United States and appears in concerts with the Fort Wayne and Marion Philharmonic Orchestras. International tours have included Bahamas, Great Britain, Austria, Italy, Germany, Scandinavia, Russia, Greece and South Korea.

Milligan’s Concert Choir performs extensively on campus and throughout the United States, appearing at churches, high schools, and conventions and appearing with professional orchestras throughout the region, including the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony of the Mountains.  The choir also has toured throughout England and has sung at the invitation of the President at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C.
