Performance takes a fun, fast-paced jaunt through Shakespeare’s work

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Feb. 15, 2012) — Milligan College students will stage a humorous journey through Shakespeare’s plays with “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised]” Feb. 23-26 at 7:30 p.m. in Milligan’s McMahan Student Center. All performances are free and open to the public.

This fast-paced and quick-witted play by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield masterfully and respectfully satirizes Shakespeare’s works. The 97-minute performance will include all of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as his 154 sonnets. Audience participation is highly encouraged, strictly enforced and sure to make the performance unforgettable.

The Milligan production is the senior project of Daniel Banks, a fine arts major from Elizabethton, Tenn. Banks hopes to pursue a career in acting and eventually complete graduate studies in theater, allowing him to teach.

“The theater program at Milligan has been the core of my college experience,” said Banks. “The respect and support provided by my Milligan theater professors have been a true blessing to me. Their guidance has helped me to grow not only in my capacity as an artist but also as a human being.”

Joining Banks on stage is Matthew Rees, a sophomore fine arts major from Redford, Mich. Rounding out the cast is Timothy Laurio, a senior English major from Jonesborough, Tenn.

The performance is stage managed by Danielle Moore, a sophomore fine arts major from Unicoi, Tenn., and directed by Dr. Dennis Elkins, professor of the practice of theater and humanities at Milligan.
