MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Oct. 19, 2011) — Milligan College will host an inauguration chapel service to offer prayers of blessing for the college’s 15th president, Dr. Bill Greer, on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel.
The community is invited to attend the service, which will feature guest speaker Dr. Aaron Wymer, senior minister at Grandview Christian Church in Johnson City, Tenn.
Greer, his wife Edwina, and sons Logan and Jeremy, are members of Grandview, where Bill has served as an elder since 1998. The Milligan chapel service is part of a week of special events leading up to Greer’s inauguration ceremony on Friday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m.
“This is an important day for those of us who have served side-by-side with Bill and his family in the church,” Wymer said. “We are pleased for Milligan and for the Greers because we believe this is just a really good match. He will continue Milligan’s tradition of faithful leadership, keeping the revelation of God in Christ at the center of their mission.”
Wymer is in his 13th year as senior minister at Grandview. In addition, he is an adjunct professor of preaching at Emmanuel Christian Seminary and serves as vice president of the European Evangelistic Society. He earned a D.Min. from Asbury Theological Seminary, an M.Div. from Emmanuel and a B.S. from the University of Florida. He and his wife, Cynthia, have three daughters; the oldest of which is a student at Milligan. Wymer’s message, titled “Humbly Go,” is based on Philippians 2:3-8.
In addition, representatives from the Milligan community will offer words of blessing and encouragement from Milligan’s students, faculty, administration, board of trustees and the assembled community.
The service also will include an offering in song, featuring the Milligan Women’s Chorale singing “The Basin and the Towel” by Christian songwriter Michael Card. This selection, which was originally written as a solo piece, was arranged for a group of women’s voices by Dr. David Runner, professor of music at Milligan, with permission from Card. The chorale is led by Anne Elliott, assistant professor of the practice of music at Milligan.
After the offering of song, the congregation will join together for a time of prayer. The prayer service will be led by three Milligan College presidents—Dr. Don Jeanes, Dr. Marshall Leggett and Dr. Greer.
Jeanes will begin with an offering of prayer for Bill and Edwina Greer. Leggett will follow with a prayer for Milligan’s board and cabinet. Greer will offer a prayer for the entire Milligan community. Finally, the congregation will join their voices praying The Lord’s Prayer.
