The Johnson City Area Arts Council will display paintings by Nick Blosser in its gallery in the King’s Center from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31, 2011. The title of Blosser’s exhibit is “Outside-In,” which describes both the process and subjects of the paintings in this exhibit. These paintings are large watercolors that are done from sketches he does of various viewpoints inside the wooded area near his home. He enlarges these small drawings into big watercolors in his studio.
“I enjoy the challenge of trying to find something essential out of what others may consider mundane or even chaotic…. I am not interested in pursuing a totally objective realism, so I try and do a little editing out of the visual complexity of nature as I begin the painting process. For me, painting has always been an inward and reflective experience as well,” Blosser said.
Blosser primarily makes paintings, but he also teaches art at Milligan College. Sometimes his subjects include interior settings, but primarily his paintings are landscapes, especially of areas near his home. Currently, he is working in small and large scale watercolor, but he also works in egg tempera and oil. Blosser is affiliated with PDX Contemporary Art, Portland, Oregon. His work can be viewed at www.pdxcontemporaryart.com .
A reception and opportunity to meet the artist will be held Friday, Oct. 7, from 6-8 p.m. along with First Friday festivities.
