MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 13, 2011) —It is “Wonderful Wednesday” at Milligan College. Day classes have been cancelled today, Wednesday, April 13, and a variety of social activities and games have been planned for the college’s annual surprise holiday.

This spring holiday for the Milligan community is a college tradition dating back to the late 1960s. A veil of secrecy surrounds the exact date and theme of the surprise holiday each year. Activities are planned by Milligan’s Campus Activities Board.

This year’s theme is “Come Sail Away, It’s Wonderful Wednesday.” Activities begin with a Bon Voyage Brunch at 10 a.m. in the cafeteria, followed by the annual faculty hunt at 11:30 a.m.

Various activities are planned throughout campus from noon to 4 p.m., including a lazy river inner tube excursion on Buffalo Creek, go-kart races, putt-putt, a rock-climbing adventure and Euro bungee jumping on Derthick Lawn. Another highlight of the day will be the Buffalo Trail water slide into Buffalo Creek.

There will also be several competitive events throughout the afternoon including dodgeball, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee and soccer intramurals; a race against the chapel bells at noon; and a limbo competition.

The day concludes with a Caribbean dinner featuring Pan Jive, a live steel drum band, followed by a drive-in movie.

Evening classes that meet once a week will meet as scheduled.
