Art exhibit opens April 17 at Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 11, 2011) — An art exhibit by Milligan College senior Kandice Davis will be on display Sunday, April 17, through Saturday, April 23, in the Milligan Art Gallery.
The opening reception is Sunday, April 17, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the gallery, located in the lower level of Milligan’s Derthick Hall. It is free and open to the public.

The exhibit will feature an array of paintings, drawings, collages and photography symbolizing the artist’s journey through life. Davis’ art incorporates fire, a symbolic element that represents her various ideas about life.

“I’ve seen the benefits and downfalls of parts of my life being ‘destroyed,’ but I have also seen how parts have been rejuvenated,” said Davis, of Queens, N.Y. “Fire is merely symbolic, but it gives the best explanation for the atmosphere I’m trying to portray.”
