Milligan music faculty to present joint recital

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 18, 2011) – The Milligan College music faculty will present a collaborative recital on Friday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Milligan’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Memorial Chapel. The recital is free and open to the public.

“We revived the faculty recital last spring after several years without it, and it was very well received,” said Dr. Kellie Brown, chair of the music area at Milligan. “Our music faculty members are not just teachers; they are also very talented musicians. This recital gives us the opportunity to work collaboratively with each other and be performance models for our students.”

The recital will feature seven performers from the music faculty, including Dr. Charlotte Anderson, Dr. Kellie Brown, Anne Elliott and Dr. David Runner, as well as adjunct professors Justin Butler, Tom Crawford and Douglas Grove-DeJarnett. The evening will include works for voice, as well as selections featuring the viola, clarinet, piano, organ and guitar.

Featured selections include Robert Schumann’s “Marchenerzahlungen (Fairy Tales) for Clarinet, Viola and Piano, Op. 12;” Charles Martin Loeffler’s “La chanson des ingénues,” and “Duette, Op. 28” by Johannes Brahms. The faculty will also perform works by Rebecca Clarke, Consuelo Velazquez, Daniel Gawthrop, Joel Raney, Duke Ellington, Irving Mills and several others.
