Moen to speak during Milligan's Spiritual Renewal Week

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 17, 2011) — Milligan College will hold its annual Spiritual Renewal Week March 20-26, with special guest Tom Moen, global outreach pastor at Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, Md.

Moen will speak on Tuesday, March 22, and Thursday, March 24, at 11 a.m. in Milligan’s Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Memorial Chapel. The events are free and open to the public.

The theme of this year’s Spiritual Renewal Week is “IHope.” Moen’s message on Tuesday is titled “Find Your Personal Story of Hope.” On Thursday, his message is “Hope for the World Hope for Us All.”

Moen completed a bachelor’s degree at Minnesota Bible College and served for five years as youth pastor at his home church, Meadow Park Church of Christ in Rochester, Minn. He later attended Emmanuel School of Religion (Johnson City, Tenn.), where he completed his master’s degree.

Together with his wife, Amy, and their three children, Moen served with Christian Missionary Fellowship in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, from 1995 to 2006. He joined the staff at Mountain in 2006, where he coordinates the church’s outreach and mission efforts to the local community and around the world.

In addition to Moen’s visit, Spiritual Renewal Week includes a variety of student activities and worship services. The week will conclude with Race for Hope, a 5K fundraiser to raise awareness and money for the fight against human trafficking, on Saturday, March 26, at 9 a.m. This event is open to the public.

The fundraiser is organized by Breaking the Silence, a student group that works to raise awareness and healing for victims of sexual exploitation, and Milligan’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Race proceeds will benefit Eternal Threads, an international organization committed to rescuing girls and women from a life of human trafficking.

The 5K race will begin at Milligan’s Derthick Hall and will consist of a rolling course circling through the Milligan campus, Buffalo Creek Road and Toll Branch Road. The registration form and payment information can be found atwww.milligan.edu/raceforhope. Registration is $15, if postmarked by Saturday, March 19; and $20 on race day. Registration closes at 8:30 a.m. on March 26.
