MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 24, 2010) – Milligan College is pleased to announce that Dr. Heather M. Hoover completed her Ph.D. in English at the University of Tennessee. She successfully defended her dissertation, titled “Faith and Field: Christianity, the Environment, and Five Contemporary American Poets,” earlier this month.
Hoover has served as assistant professor of humanities and director of writing at Milligan since 2007. Before joining the college’s full-time faculty, she was an adjunct instructor of writing and humanities at Milligan. She has also taught English at the University of Tennessee and at middle and high schools in Tennessee and New Hampshire.
Hoover has a bachelor’s degree in English and humanities from Milligan and a master’s degree from East Tennessee State University. She also did graduate work at Dartmouth College (Hanover, N.H.).
“Milligan congratulates Dr. Hoover on a job well done,” said Dr. Mark Matson, vice president for academic affairs at Milligan. “She has shown great leadership in our writing program, and I am very proud we have her as a colleague.”
