MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (October 16, 2009) – The Milligan College Orchestra will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a concert on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Milligan’s Seeger Memorial Chapel. The performance is free and open to the public.
Under the direction of Dr. Kellie Brown, the orchestra will showcase a variety of repertoire from masterworks by Vaughan Williams and Bach to great film scores by Hans Zimmer and Michael Giacchino.
“The Milligan College Orchestra is excited to celebrate a decade of performing great repertoire for audiences throughout the area,” Brown said. “This concert is a wonderful opportunity to showcase many styles of music and 10 years of hard work.”
Founded in 1999, the Milligan Orchestra has had a very successful history with performances throughout the region, collaborations with other groups such as the Civic Chorale, and premieres by well-known composers, including Kenton Coe. The orchestra recently released a CD of favorite hymns with the Milligan College Concert Choir, titled “Our Song Shall Rise to Thee.”
In addition to providing an excellent ensemble experience for Milligan students, the orchestra has broadened into the community to include students from East Tennessee State University and area high schools, as well as Milligan alumni and members from the community.
