MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 11, 2007) — Local educators will discuss how to make after-school programs both educational and fun at the third annual “School Age Rocks” conference this Saturday, April 14, at Milligan College.
The conference, planned and organized by a regional committee of individuals from after school programs and agencies in the greater northeast area, will discuss non-traditional styles of education, such as music, games, art and drama. Designed for directors and supervisors of the region’s after-school programs, which provide supervision and enrichment for children in the hours before and after school, the Northeast Tennessee School Age Child Care Conference (NETSACC) will be hosted by Milligan College’s Teacher Education area.
“The education area is pleased to host the “School Age Rocks” conference. As a former principal I understand the importance of providing quality training to child-care directors and caregivers. Milligan, along with local community agencies, provide this conference as a service to the directors and caregivers in the Tri-Cities to make a difference in the lives of children ,” said Dr. Tracey Crowe, assistant professor of education at Milligan.
This year’s one-day conference features multiple opportunities and workshops for educators. Workshop presenters include several after-school program directors from Northeast Tennessee, as well as many respected local educators.
Also presenting are Milligan College professors Dr. Billye Joyce Fine, assistant professor of education, and Dr. Norma Morrison, professor of education, along with several Milligan education students.
Milligan College offers teacher licensure programs in early childhood, elementary, middle grades, secondary, and K-12 specialty in physical education, music, theatre and physical education, as well as an adult degree program in early childhood education. Milligan’s teacher education program is one of only nine private colleges in Tennessee accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
