I’m pleased to announce that Milligan has partnered with Pioneer College Caterers to remodel and enhance the food service options for students, beginning in Fall 2007. Our goal is to have the dining hall become another community-oriented Student Life space, where students can visit with each other, study mid-day, or grab a bite with friends at their convenience. This entails:
- Dining Hall Remodel – This summer we will remodel the interior space of McCormick Dining Hall to provide contemporary seating, with booths, lounge chairs, stool tables, and 4-top cafe tables; carpeted flooring; new lighting; new dish return; and customized service areas. These changes will help create a more community-focused environment and be less institutional. A sketch of the new floorplan is attached to this email to help you see the changes.
- Continuous Service – To accommodate students’ busy schedules, the dining hall will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Students can come and go as fits their schedule and even stay as long as they like when visiting with friends. A complete meal program will be offered during traditional breakfast, lunch, and dinner hours. At other times, the deli bar, pizza station, soup and salad bar, desserts, cereal bars, and other stations will always be available. This means students are no longer limited to a fixed number of meals per week. All students will have the same food plan option and have unlimited access to the dining services.
- Higher Quality – We have a commitment to providing higher quality food. This includes subs and sandwiches made to order, freshly prepared pizza and pasta, entrees made to order, pastry table, and carved roasted meats.
- Late Night Service – Exchange meals will be available in the Grill from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Current restrictions to a fixed menu have been eliminated, providing students with a greater flexibility in menu selection. The Grab & Go selection will also be expanded.
This project is one of the first steps in a bold series of initiatives that we will be announcing in the near future. We hope that collectively these changes will better serve our students while providing an enhanced opportunity for fellowship and community.
