MSHA president to speak at Milligan commencement


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (December 8, 2006) — Mountain States Health Alliance President and CEO Dennis Vonderfecht will be the keynote speaker for Milligan College’s commencement ceremony on Friday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. in Seeger Memorial Chapel.

The college’s December graduates include 10 bachelor of arts (B.A.), 32 bachelor of science (B.S.), eight master of business administration (M.B.A.), 47 master of education (M.Ed.), and 20 master of science in occupational therapy (MSOT) students.

Vonderfecht’s career in healthcare administration began nearly 30 years ago at a 100-bed acute care facility. Today, he serves as president and CEO of MSHA, a 1,124-bed, eight hospital healthcare system located in Northeast Tennessee.

He holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska and master’s degrees in business administration and public health from the University of Missouri.

Vonderfecht serves on numerous healthcare-related boards. Locally, he has been involved on the boards of the Johnson City/Jonesborough/Washington County Chamber of Commerce, United Way , American Red Cross, Rocky Mount Museum and Hands On! Regional Museum . He also is a member of the President’s Executive Council at Milligan College and a member of the East Tennessee State University Foundation Board of Directors. He has been recognized as a “Leader in Christian Service” by Milligan College and as an “Honorary Alumnus” by East Tennessee State University.

Milligan will also confer an honorary doctorate of administration upon Vonderfecht during its Dec. 15 ceremony.
