MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN ( February 20, 2006 ) — Published and acclaimed author David Dark will speak in convocation tomorrow, Tuesday, February 21, at 11:00 a.m.
Dark will speak on theology and pop culture, using illustrations from his latest book, “The Gospel According to America: A Meditation on a God-Blessed, Christ-Haunted Idea,” as well as his first book, “Everyday Apocalypse: The sacred revealed in Radiohead, the Simpsons and other Pop Culture Icons.”
“My talks are all about how our consumption of media — books, film, music — should be all about finding what’s true and therefore beautiful in life,” said Dark. “I try to illustrate how we grow into people of affirmation, generosity and discernment, not just people who define themselves by everything they’re against.”
Dark currently serves as resident director and writer-in-residence at the Contemporary Music Center in Martha’s Vineyard , where his wife, Sarah, serves as songwriter-in-residence.
Dark will also speak at an informal session held in Hyder Auditorium Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
