MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Jan. 19, 2006) — The Milligan College community is mourning the loss of junior Steven Hunter, who collapsed during tennis training practice Wednesday afternoon. He was taken to Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton, where he was pronounced dead. No further details are known at this time.

Hunter, 21, was a junior history major and legal studies minor from Portsmouth, Ohio. He was a member of the Milligan College men’s tennis team. He is the son of Mark and Virgie Hunter, also of Portsmouth.

“This is a very difficult time for our campus community. We ask for prayers for Steven’s family and friends and for the Milligan community as we cope with this loss,” said Milligan President Don Jeanes.

The campus gathered Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for a service of prayer, comfort, and hope. A campus memorial service will be held today, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. in Seeger Memorial Chapel.

The college’s Campus Ministry staff, Residence Hall staff, and grief counselors are working with students and the campus community to help them deal with this loss.

All athletic events for Jan. 19 have been cancelled.
