Calhoun to speak at Milligan commencement


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (December 6, 2005) — Dr. Larry D. Calhoun, dean of the College of Pharmacy for East Tennessee State University, will be the keynote speaker at Milligan College’s commencement ceremony on Friday, December 16, at 7:00 p.m. in Seeger Memorial Chapel.

Calhoun was named dean of the East Tennessee State University College of Pharmacy in 2005 following a lengthy career in pharmacy, education and health care administration.

Prior to his appointment as dean, Calhoun served as president and chief executive officer of Wilson Pharmacy and Home Health in Johnson City, Tenn. At Wilson Pharmacy, Calhoun was responsible for the implementation of leadership restructuring, strategic planning of business goals and leadership development.

Calhoun previously served as president and chief executive officer of the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital in Erwin , Tenn. , vice president for Mountain States Health Alliance and vice president of the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn.

Throughout his career Calhoun has held teaching positions at East Tennessee State University, Milligan College, Mercer College of Pharmacy in Atlanta, Ga., Campbell College of Pharmacy in Buies Creek, N.C., and the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Memphis, Tenn.

A native of Hampton, Tenn., Calhoun holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. His professional memberships are many and his community and statewide service is extensive. He is heavily involved in academic committees and advisory councils, both locally and nationally.

“We are delighted to have Dr. Calhoun as our commencement speaker,” said Milligan College president Don Jeanes. “ As a pharmacist in East Tennessee, Larry has been a long time friend of Milligan College. As dean of the pharmacy school he will continue to build a strong tie of cooperation between Milligan College and East Tennessee State University.”

Milligan will graduate 57 students. The fall 2005 graduates include 11 bachelor of arts (B.A.), 22 bachelor of science (B.S.), six master of education (M.Ed.), and 18 master of science in occupational therapy (MSOT) degrees.
