MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (October 12, 2005) — Tickets are now available for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical, “Oklahoma,” at Milligan College on October 27 through 29.
The production, under the direction of theatre professor Richard Major, is based on the classic play “Green Grow the Lilacs,” by Lynn Riggs. The musical features a high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys in Oklahoma, where Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, live and eventually fall in love.
Oklahoma is a production of the Milligan College Area of Performing, Visual, and Communicative Arts. The cast, crew, and musical ensemble include Milligan students, faculty, and members of the community.
Dr. Kellie Brown, professor of music, will lead a 39 piece orchestra. Milligan junior Tyler Simmons serves as stage manager; Milligan associate professor of music, John Wakefield, is musical director; Todd Hensley of Appalachian Light and Production is lighting director; Melissa Shafer, East Tennessee State University professor of theatre and design, is set designer; ETSU graduate student, Monet LaClair, is costume designer; and Stephanie Holladay, former actor with Barter’s Resident Acting Company, is the show’s choreographer.
The cast includes: Rosemarie Shields, assistant professor of humanities, as Aunt Eller; junior Robert Kitchens as Curly; senior Leslie Johnson as Laurey; freshman Scott Glisson as Will Parker; Emmanuel student David Clinkscales as Jud Fry; junior Ally Horner as Ado Annie Carnes; Paul Blowers, Emmanuel School of Religion professor of church history, as Ali Hakim; senior Jessica Davis as Gertie Cummins; Marvin Glover, professor of mathematics, as Andrew Carnes; junior Melissa Gilleland as Dream Laurey; sophomore Kyle Kuhn as Dream Curley; and Gary Wallace, professor of biology, as the Federal Marshal.
The rest of the ensemble includes junior Lauren Anderson, sophomore Bethany Barton, senior Rachel Eng, sophomore Megan Gable, junior Jeff Gist, junior Amanda Green, freshman Matt Haas, associate professor of biology and occupational therapy Karen Kelly, freshman B.J. Krug, sophomore Kyle Kuhn, freshman Katie Luchini, professor of chemistry Richard Lura, sophomore Zoey Phelps, junior Hannah Beth Potter, junior Dustin Pollock, junior Caitlin Smith, junior Christian Thompson, freshman Joy Veenstra, senior Lindsey Vogt, and professor of biology Julia Wade.
The show will run October 27 through 29 in Seeger Chapel on the Milligan College campus. All shows will start at 7:30 p.m., with the box office opening each evening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the door or by contacting the Milligan College Bookstore at 423.461.8733.
