“Becoming a Woman of Love, Truth and Power,” the first ladies conference sponsored by Associated Ladies for Milligan, will both challenge and bless the women who attend, said Clarinda Jeanes, ALM president and wife of Milligan College president Donald Jeanes.
“I think [participants] will have a new sense of wanting to become a better person themselves plus reach others,” Jeanes said.
The conference will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, in Seeger Chapel on the campus of Milligan College. The cost is $20 prior to Feb. 10, and $25 after Feb. 20. The cost includes lunch. All proceeds benefit student scholarships at Milligan College.
To register for the conference, call 434-2404, e-mail cpjeanes@milligan.edu or visit www.milligan.edu/ALM.
The conference is a first for ALM, an organization formed three years ago with several goals, including the renovation of the historic Taylor/Phillips House on the campus; the establishment of scholarships; and starting an annual ladies conference for female students at Milligan and area women. “The time was right to start [the conference],” Jeanes said.
Keynote speaker for the conference is Rebecca Pippert, best-selling author of “Out of the Salt Shaker and Into the World.” She is an internationally acclaimed speaker and a widely recognized authority in the area of evangelism.
She also is prayer partners with the wife of the minister of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Ky. That wife is a good friend of Jeanes.
“It’s a God thing, how it worked out” booking Pippert for the conference, Jeanes said.
Jeanes worked for two years to schedule Pippert because her schedule is so full. “Several ladies had heard Rebecca and just raved about how good she is,” Jeanes said.
Pippert is founder of Salt Shaker Ministries, whose mission is “to train, teach and equip Christians to know Christ and make Him well-known.” Among the highlights of her activities are being keynote speaker for Billy Graham’s Conference for Itinerant Evangelists in Amsterdam, being a frequent guest on Moody Bible Radio broadcasts, and writing a monthly column for the largest Christian Korean magazine, Salt and Light.
It was Pippert who suggested the theme for the ALM conference, “Becoming a Woman of Love, Truth and Power.”
“She said this [theme] was very timely; it’s where most women are right now,” Jeanes said.
Musical group for the conference will be SoulReal, which is based at the same church that Pippert attends. The trio with a contemporary country sound that has as its mission “Tell the world,” has ties to Milligan.
Rhonda Jo Conner, a former country music singer who is now a motivational speaker and songwriter, is the wife a member of the Milligan board of trustees; and Margaret Cloud Searcy, a classically trained soprano, is an alumna of Milligan. The third member of the group is Lesley McFerron, whose background includes both stage and film acting, commercial voice-overs and studio singing.
Worship leader for the day is Nikki Bowie.
Jeanes hopes this conference both serves ALM’s and Milligan College’s goals of growing Christian servant leaders, and she hopes it will inspire the women who attend.
“For the ladies that participate in it, I hope they’re challenged and want to go back to their churches and do more for their women’s ministry and just reaching out to other women in the area.”
