MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (November 30, 2004) — Finances are often cited as the leading concern as college-bound students and their parents consider options for higher education. On Tuesday, December 14, from noon until 8 p.m., at The Mall at Johnson City, area residents will have the opportunity to speak with financial aid planning experts. Hosted by Milligan College, this event is free and open to all students and parents with questions about the college financial aid process.
“We know that many families simply don’t know how to get started,” said Chris Rolph, associate vice president for business and finance. “They are often surprised to learn about the variety of merit and need-based resources. The key is having a plan. Our staff is excited about providing this community service for students and parents and the opportunity to help them establish a well-informed plan to secure all the financial aid for which they are eligible.”
Financial aid counselors will answer questions related to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the primary form used to determine a student’s need; merit-based scholarships from college and other organizations (including the new Tennessee Educational Lottery Scholarship); need-based aid from federal, state and college resources; federal educational loan programs; campus work study; how to communicate special circumstances to college financial aid offices; and more.
“We encourage families to bring a list of questions, their FAFSA’s and other information that will help the financial aid planning representatives in providing helpful advice,” said Rolph.
The College Financial Aid Day is not college-specific. Students who plan to attend a two or four-year public or private college will benefit from the general information available.
“There are countless students attending the college of their choice today because they investigated all forms of available financial assistance. We are committed to helping families in the Tri-Cities realize their educational goals. The College Financial Aid Day will be a good start for families, whether their child will be attending college next fall or several years down the road,” said David Mee, vice president for enrollment management at Milligan College.
