New holiday market features local artistry and gifts

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (October 15, 2004) — A holiday market featuring unique gifts and local artistry will be held at Milligan College on Nov. 5-6. Sponsored by Associated Ladies for Milligan (ALM), the event will provide holiday shoppers from throughout the region an opportunity to explore the sights, sounds and smells of the season.

Milligan’s Derthick Hall will be transformed into a holiday market with various vendors displaying an array of gifts, handmade goods, specialty foods and crafts for the first annual “Festival of Seasons: A Holiday Market.”

This event offers something for everyone.  For the Christmas shopper, it’s a wonderful way to get a jump on holiday shopping in a unique and festive environment with a variety of items designed for that hard-to-buy-for-person on your list.  Some of the unique items which will be sold are: jewelry, handmade soaps, baskets, pottery, furniture, home décor, kitchen items, wooden bowls, fresh greenery and much more. For those not interested in shopping, listen to local jazz talent and Milligan professor Rick Simerly while sampling a variety of coffees or hot cider at the Friday night event.

“We have a wonderful group of very talented women who have organized this event to be one of the premier holiday shopping events in this region,” said Clarinda Jeanes, founder and president of ALM. “People can do their holiday shopping for that special gift while donating to student scholarships.”

The market will be open on Friday, Nov. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, Nov. 6, all day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A $5 donation for admission is requested, with all proceeds benefiting student scholarships at Milligan College .
