MILLIGAN COLLEGE , TN (July 16, 2004) — Milligan College summer commencement will be held on Saturday, July 24, at 10 a.m. The 57 graduates include four bachelor of arts (B.A.) degrees, 16 bachelor of science (B.S.) degrees, 36 master of education (M.Ed.) degrees, and one master of science in occupational therapy (MSOT) degree.
Dr. Rebecca Isbell, director of the center for early childhood learning and development and professor at East Tennessee State University , will present the commencement address.
Isbell is a nationally recognized authority on early childhood education. She has written eight books that relate to young children, including a textbook, “Creativity and the Arts with Young Children,” published in 2003 that is widely used in universities in the United States and Canada . She has also written over 50 articles that have been published in professional journals.
Milligan’s M.Ed. program enables students to complete a master’s degree and teacher licensure requirements in approximately 15 months. The advanced program allows current teachers to add endorsement areas or achieve national board certification. Milligan’s M.Ed. program is approved by the Tennessee Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
Milligan’s MSOT program is one of only two such programs in the state of Tennessee and prepares therapists to help aging or injured people relearn basic living skills.
An alumni reception for family and friends of the graduates will be held in the George Walker Auditorium in Lower Seeger. The reception is sponsored by the Milligan College Alumni Office.
