Wonderful Wednesday (Friday) at Milligan!

MILLIGAN COLLEGE , TN (April 15, 2004) — Milligan College is taking a different approach this year with its annual “Wonderful Wednesday” celebration. The festivities will kick-off at 5 p.m. today and go throughout the day tomorrow, April 16.

Normally the surprise “holiday” for the Milligan community is announced early in the morning of the actual day – which is not always on a Wednesday, despite the campus holiday’s name. This year’s planning committee decided to try a different approach that would give students more advanced noticed and extend the festivities into the evening before.

Festivities begin today at 5 p.m. with a special cookout at the McMahan Student Center , followed by evening games at the Fieldhouse. Friday’s activities start with a 10:30 a.m. brunch in the McCormick Dining Center. The afternoon will be busy with a volleyball competition, the annual faculty vs. students softball game, ultimate frisbee, a waterslide near Buffalo Creek, obstacle course, and the annual tug-of-war across the creek.

Regular day classes are cancelled for Friday, April 16, and will be replaced by a variety of social activities planned by Social Affairs and the Student Government Association. (Thursday night classes will meet tonight, April 15, as scheduled.)

Begun in 1969 by then-President Jess Johnson as a day to ease the normal pressures of spring fever, the tradition has continued, each year surrounded by a veil of secrecy in hopes of surprising the students and faculty.

This year’s Wonderful Wednesday theme is “Welcome to Hollywood ,” and all events are based on Hollywood features.
