Reverend Hale to speak in chapel


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 24, 2004) — Reverend Dr. Cynthia L. Hale, founder and senior pastor of the Ray of Hope Christian Church in Decatur, Ga., will present the message for the chapel service on Thursday, March 25, 3004, 11 a.m., in Seeger Memorial Chapel on the campus of Milligan College.

A native of Roanoke , Va. , Hale earned a bachelor of arts degree from Hollins College ( Va. ). She holds a master of divinity degree from Duke University and a doctorate of ministry from United Theological Seminary (Dayton , Ohio).

After serving as a chaplain for federal correctional facilities in Colorado and North Carolina , Dr. Hale began the Ray of Hope Christian Church. What began seventeen years ago with only four people gathering for a Bible study has grown to over 7,000 members and has become one of only three churches in the Christian Church denomination to be recognized in the book “ Excellent Protestant Congregations: The Guide to Best Places and Practice.”

Hale’s ministerial gifts have drawn thousands, young and old. She has traveled abroad preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, sharing the “Good News” in Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and Australia . Hale is a woman on a mission to impact and transform this present world into the Kingdom of God.

Hale has received several awards and honors over the years, including the 1998 Atlanta Gospel Choice “Chosen Award,” the 2000 “Profiles of Prominence Award” from the National Women of Achievement, Inc., and induction into the African American Biographies Hall of Fame and Martin Luther King’s Board of Preachers, Atlanta, Ga. Hale has also appeared on the nationally syndicated television program “60 Minutes.”
