MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 24, 2004) —Free skin cancer screenings, visual and glaucoma screenings and massage therapy demonstrations are just a few of the opportunities at Milligan College’s annual Wellness Fair on Thursday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the McMahan Student Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
The fair will feature over 20 local presenters, including the Johnson City Medical Center’s Osteo Center, Piney Flats Chiropractic Center, Cooperative Appalachian Marrow Program, Bethany Christian Services, The Johnson City Hearing Center and the Milligan College nursing and occupational therapy programs.
The subjects of the presentations include bone density studies, hearing evaluations, chiropractic care, massage therapy, facial laser dermabrasions, glaucoma/vision screening, post-mortem tissue donation, Aveda natural skin care, safe tanning, tobacco awareness, stress, diabetes, self defense, eating disorders, sexual assault, nutrition and weight loss.
A Coronary Risk Panel blood draw will also be offered from 7 to 9 a.m. at a discounted cost of $10 per person. Results will provide values of total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, hematocrit, glucose and triglycerides. The test requires fasting.
Door prizes will be given throughout the day, including the grand prize for Milligan students: an adult battery-powered scooter with helmet. The scooter is compliments of Proffitt’s Department Store in Johnson City and the helmet is provided by Two Wheel Transit Bicycles in Johnson City. Other significant door prizes will be provided by presenters and will be available to all participants.
“The community response last year was very positive. The fair drew over 300 people and we expect more this year,” said Dianne Burrow, clinic nurse at Milligan College and organizer of the event.
