MILLIGAN COLLEGE , TN (Feb. 11, 2004) — The music department of Milligan College will honor its finest on Friday, February 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Seeger Memorial Chapel, located on campus.
Five performers have been selected to appear in the college’s annual honors recital. Students from Tennessee, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and California are scheduled to perform.
A violinist, two instrumentalists and two pianists will perform in the recital. Stephanie Muncie, freshman violinist from Blountville, Tenn., will perform “The Sonata in G Minor” by Eccles. Muncie is a student of Dr. Kellie Brown, assistant professor, and she will be accompanied by Rachel Eng, of Hong Kong, People’s Republic of China.
Erik Boggs of Norton, Va., will play the Petite Piece Concertante by Guillaume Balay on the trumpet. Boggs is a senior instrumental music education major. He will be accompanied by Dr. David Runner, professor at Milligan. Boggs is a trumpet student of Rick Simerly, associate professor at Milligan.
Michael Douty of Mill Hall, Pa., is a senior saxophonist and an instrumental music education major. Douty is a student of Tom Crawford, adjunct professor in woodwind instruction at Milligan. He will play Braziliera, by Darius Milhaud. Accompaniment will be provided by Vicky Fey of Bristol, Tenn.
Two pianists also will play in the recital, Dawn Loughry of Crescent City, Calif., and Rachel Cunningham of Waterford, Ohio. Both women are juniors and general music studies majors. Loughry will play Prelude in G Minor, Opus 23, No.5 by Sergei Rachmanioff. The evening will conclude with Cunningham’s performance of Sonata No. 3 by Vincent Persichetti.
The honors recital is free and open to the public. The performers will be feted at a reception in their honor following the performance. The reception, to be held in Walker Auditorium in the lower level of the chapel, also is free and open to the public.
