MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (October 20, 2003)— Hundreds of alumni and friends will visit the Tri-Cities this weekend to attend Milligan’s annual Homecoming, Oct. 24-25.
There are many opportunities throughout the weekend for alumni and friends of the college to visit with classmates, faculty members and friends, as well as to hear and see the progress and vision of the college. A complete schedule is available online at www.milligan.edu and several events are described below.
Nine alumni will be honored and recognized for notable achievements Friday evening at the 6:30 p.m. Celebrate Milligan dinner. An ice cream social will follow at 8:30 p.m. in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Saturday morning’s Faculty-Alumni Gathering at 10 a.m. will provide an informal time for alumni to visit with faculty in the Fireside Lounge at the McMahan Student Center.
Another main attraction on Saturday is the third annual Homecoming Parade at 2 p.m., featuring floats representing student organizations and the Milligan pep band. The parade route will follow the main road through campus, circling around the Mary Sword Campus Commons. Inflatable attractions will also add fun for children throughout the afternoon.
Throughout the weekend, students and alumni have several opportunities to be a fan or participant in various athletic events, including a doubles tennis tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday, a 5K Run/2.5K Walk at 9 a.m., and the annual Alumni vs. Students Football Game at 10 a.m.
Alumni can then sit back and cheer the Buffs and Lady Buffs to victory at the intercollegiate soccer matches between Milligan and Tennessee Wesleyan. The men play at 2 p.m. and women at 4:30 p.m.
Saturday afternoon’s schedule is also busy with class reunions for the Classes of 1953, 1958, 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993 and 1998. There is also a reception for the Classes of 1968 and 1978 at Little Hartland, the President’s home.
Saturday evening will feature the Alumni Basketball Game at 5:45 p.m., followed by an exhibition game of the men’s varsity team playing Crossfire at 7 p.m. The evening will conclude at 8 p.m. with the weekend’s feature event, the family-friendly musical comedy Star Queen in Seeger Chapel.
All meal events and the feature event are ticketed events. All other events are free and open to alumni and friends of the college. The Alumni Office asks that all attendees register in the McMahan Student Center on Friday or Saturday.
