MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Feb. 3, 2003) – Last year’s “Leaders in Christian Service” project at Milligan College saw several local health care professionals, educators, attorneys, and business leaders recognized for their Christian leadership in society. Milligan is now inviting nominations for this year’s program.
“The purpose is to recognize those individuals who are doing an outstanding job of integrating their faith with their profession,” said Milligan President Donald R. Jeanes. “This is not an award, but a way to provide examples for our community and especially to our students of what servant leadership is all about, and what it can look like on a daily basis in a variety of careers.”
Consideration is given to the following criteria, explained Jeanes: excellence of Christian character; evidence of Christian leadership in the church and community; and strong Christian example through professional, vocational or volunteer leadership.
“We are interested in those individuals who live out their faith in every aspect of their life and who are strong Christian examples beyond the walls of the church,” said Jeanes.
Jeanes explained that Milligan’s mission and vision is to prepare servant leaders in a variety of professions.
“As Ed Silvoso, author of Anointed for Business says, we are called to be ministers of Christ, whether we work on Wall Street or in a church pulpit,” said Jeanes. “Whatever our calling, be it clergy, coach or accountant, our ‘job’ as Christians is to help win our world to Christ and lead the way to moral restoration within our nation.”
Nominations for the Tri-Cities “Leaders in Christian Service” program will be accepted until Feb. 28. An independent selection committee will review nominations and select honorees.
Honorees will be introduced to the Milligan student body on April 15 at a special convocation service in Seeger Chapel on the Milligan College campus. They and their nominators also will be the guests of Milligan President Don Jeanes at a special reception that day.
