MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (September 7, 5:15 p.m.) – SONFEST, a back-to-school community festival, attracted over a thousand people to the campus of Milligan College today. Area youth groups participated in various events, called the Youth Challenge, to help raise money for Good Samaritan Ministries.
“We are overwhelmed with the response we have seen. We asked people to bring donations of school supplies to be distributed to families in need, and have been impressed by the response the community has shown,” said Joe Wise, director of SONFEST. “Multiple trips will be required to transport all the donated school supplies to Good Samaritan from our campus.”
Along with the school supplies donated, youth that participated in the Youth Challenge raised over $1000 today. Gifts are still continuing to come in. All proceeds of this event go towards the work of Good Samaritan. Good Samaritan Ministries is a non-profit ministry that relies on community support to continue its work in the six counties of Northeast Tennessee.
The day will close with a praise and prayer service in Seeger Memorial Chapel at 7:00 p.m. featuring Esther’s Request leading worship and Ronda Paulson (’97) as guest speaker to encourage the community to lift up the new school year in prayer.
