Students elect new SGA officers

Milligan students selected their new student body leaders during yesterday’s election process. Tony Jones was elected study body president, Jason Harville was elected vice president, Jacqie Patterson was elected secretary, and Amanda Diefendorf was elected treasurer.

Election results were announced last night and the executive officers were sworn in at an official ceremony during last night’s Student Government Association meeting. The meeting was the last of the year for the 2001-2002 SGA. The new council will now assume their responsibilities and begin planning for next year.

The first meeting for the 2002-2003 SGA will take place on April 9. Elections for class presidents and representatives will take place on Thursday during lunch.

The 2002-2003 SGA will have an increased budget, due to an increase in the student activity fee by $10 per year per student. The increase was requested by the students and is the first increase in seven years. The additional funds will allow SGA to accomplish more than ever before.

Current issues facing Jones, as the new president, include how to allocate the new funds, planning the annual new student banquet and various arts programs, and addressing issues on cable television and recycling.

The Student Government Association serves as the official representative voice of Milligan students and promotes academic, social, and spiritual activities for the campus community. SGA leadership is provided by an executive council and representatives from each class, each residence hall, and the non-traditional student body (commuters and married students).
