Clothes for the Ukraine drive starts this weekend

by Cory Hynek, PR Intern

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 20, 2002) —Milligan College students will be sorting through and packing thousands and thousands of pounds of clothes that will be shipped to help the less fortunate people of the Ukraine.

The Clothes for Ukraine project is coordinated by MASTER Provisions, a Christian non-profit organization based in northern Kentucky. The organization is directed by 1979 Milligan graduate Roger Babik.

MASTER Provisions started in May 1994 and made three shipments to the Ukraine that year. Last year they sent 27 shipments, and this year they are planning 35.

“Prices are set very low so that Ukrainians can afford the clothing, and cover expenses such as overseas shipping, warehouse rental, and customs duties. Any profits go to church work in Ukraine,” said Babik.

Since the time they started to send shipments the revenues have helped to build five churches in the Ukraine and there are plans for one more.

The drive will be held outside in the lower Steve Lacy Fieldhouse parking lot. In case of inclement weather the drive will be held in the lower level of the Fieldhouse. Clothes can be dropped off during the times listed below. Volunteers are also needed during these times to help sort and pack the clothes.

The schedule of drop off and packing times:
Sat, March 23: 1-4 – Sorting and Packing

Sun, March 24: 2-5 – Sorting and Packing
