Students selected for honors recital


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February 12, 2002) -Two local youths, and several others from throughout the U.S. and the Dominican Republic, have been selected by audition to appear in the Milligan College Honors Recital. The program begins at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, February 15, in the auditorium of Seeger Chapel, on the Milligan campus.

Performers on the annual Honors Recital are selected by audition at the end of the previous semester. They are selected by the music faculty for having distinguished themselves as excellent student performers.

Melissa Parker, a soprano and a junior from Bluff City, will perform Si, mi chiamano Mimi from “La Boheme” by Puccini. Her accompanist is Jane Bellamy. Parker is a choral music education major. She is a student of Deborah Eller, of the Milligan voice faculty. She also performs with the Milligan Concert Choir. Parker is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. David Parker of Bluff City, Tenn.

Lauren Webb, soprano and a junior from Bristol, Tenn., will perform Deh vieni, non tardar from “The Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart. Her accompanist is Rachel Cunningham. At Milligan, she a double major in general music studies and humanities. Webb is a student of John Wakefield, also of the Milligan voice faculty. She also performs with the Milligan Concert Choir. Webb is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Mark Webb of Bristol.

Instrumental performers on the Honors Recital program include Rachel Cunningham, pianist, of Waterford, Ohio, and Michael Douty, saxophonist, of Mill Hall, Pa. Additional vocalists appearing on the program include Lindsey Holloway, mezzo soprano, of Jackson, Tenn., and Kristofer Reed, baritone, of the Dominican Republic.
