I
like the close-knit community at Milligan. You meet lots of different and
interesting people from all over the world. The classes are small and the
professors are really good. They make an effort to get to know you and check
on you.
Humanities.
I like to see the bigger picture and how you can connect
so many things from years back to now. It explains the human experience so
in-depth.
My dream.
I want to go into management and either be a
CEO or maybe go to law school and be an attorney. I'm the first person in my
family to go to college. I'm blessed with opportunities that the rest of my
family only dreamed of. I want to show my leadership skills and do something
with my life -- do something to help people. At Milligan I get to talk to
leaders in the business world and learn how to be ethical in situations and
be a better person. It's about keeping your Christian values and serving
others.
How I got to Milligan.
I didn't know much about East Tennessee and
I thought I wanted to stay in Nashville and commute to school. But I wanted
the total college opportunity so I looked at a state school and at an
historically black college. That's where people I knew went and I just
figured I'd go there. My high school was one of the top schools in the state
and I had to work really hard. I thought I had my mind made up. But then I
started thinking, "What if that's not where I'm supposed to be?" I started
thinking about my family, my future, and the pressure of what to do after
graduation. My parents had no means to send me to college so I started
praying, "If that's not where you want me to go, let me know." This sounds
strange, but the very next day my guidance counselor tracked me down and
told me she had a college she wanted me to look at. She told me about
Milligan. This feeling just came over me immediately. I learned it was a
Christian college, they had a scholarship to help me, and everything fit
into what I needed. I couldn't speak. I just prayed, "God, I guess this is
the school." My parents didn't understand at first but they believed my
story. Then we came to visit and it was so pretty and such a great school.
My parents loved it. And it did fit perfectly. I still love it.
Spiritual life.
I'm growing spiritually. This is an environment where you can grow
spiritually and the academics are wonderful. It's got a good job placement
rate and great reputation. People know Milligan and say, "That's a good
school."
